Body of British man found stuffed in plastic bag in Bhogal

The man was identified as Rodick Andrew Reymond (40) with the help of a passport that was found during investigation.

The decomposed body of a British national was found inside a plastic bag on Church Road in Southeast Delhi’s Bhogal area on Sunday morning. Police said it appeared to be a case of murder as injury marks were spotted on the arms, head and face. The body, which was found with the hands and legs tied, also bore burn marks, which police said, resembled marks made with a lit cigarette.

The man was identified as Rodick Andrew Reymond (40) with the help of a passport that was found during investigation.

According to police, the incident came to fore after passersby noticed an unclaimed plastic bag on Church Road.

“Foul smell was emanating from the bag. Initially, we thought it was a dead animal. But the locals suggested that we call police. When police came to the spot, we found that it was a human body,” Naveen, a local resident, said.
The forensic team has picked up samples from the spot and the body has been sent to AIIMS for a post-mortem examination that is likely to be conducted on Monday.

“We have registered a case of murder at Nizamuddin police station and have initiated an investigation. We have recovered the man’s passport and are questioning locals. We received information that he was living in a guest house close to where his body was found. A team has been sent to all the guest houses in the area to make enquiries,” a police officer said.

Police said Reymond appeared to have died of head injuries. “It appears that he was hit in the head with a heavy and blunt object. His body was then stuffed into the plastic bag. It also appears that he was stubbed by a cigarette or his skin burnt with a lighter. Nothing is, however, clear as the post-mortem report is not out. The exact cause and time of death will be clear once the report is out,” a police officer said.

Police remained tight-lipped on the profile of the man. However, they clarified that he was not an embassy official.

“He may have been a tourist. We are on the case and are trying to gather as many details about him. It appears to be a case of personal enmity, but it is too early to say anything. We are investigating the matter,” an officer said.
